About Ned

Ned Schaub is Senior Director of External Relations at Heartland Alliance, where he serves as public information officer and directs organization-wide communications. He brings his passion for communications that create clear understanding of complex issues and organizations to Heartland Alliance, which has a $120 million budget and operates in Chicago, the broader Midwest, and twelve other nations

For more than twenty years Ned has served social sector efforts of organizations from around the country – in organization leadership, direct services, philanthropy, consulting, and through volunteer service and board membership. Across his career he has led and supported organization efforts to build awareness and leverage credibility with key constituencies, and to achieve measurable impact and financial viability.

He served as a communications, marketing, and business strategy consultant to organizations around the country for more than a decade. Among his clients were the John A. Hartford Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and The California Endowment.

He has spoken across the U.S. on the topics of social impact, organization sustainability, and marketing and communications -- and has given seminars in these areas based on original models and formats he developed.

As a program staff member at two major international foundations he played key roles in community outreach, and in development and management of multi-million dollar grant portfolios. In Chicago he served as a program staff member for the MacArthur Foundation in its Program on Global Security and Sustainability. In 2001, he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area to become a charter team member at the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, where he was responsible for the development and management of a multi-million dollar portfolio of grants that included projects in the fields of elder care, environmental conservation, and youth.

His career began in direct services in Chicago, where he worked at organizations that serve youth, elders, and immigrants, including Jobs For Youth Chicago and Heartland Alliance.
